Haydarhatemi1.jpg
Haydar Hatemi (born March 3, 1945, Iran/Eastern Azerbaijan)is an Iranian Azerbaijani artist whose work is based on blends of classical oriental styles such as miniature and tazhib, with some modern elements. His early studies in art started at Tabriz’s Art Academy

Style

Haydar Hatemi’s miniatures are in classical Ottoman and Persian tradition of the sixteenth century Herat school and are exceptional in their breathtaking attention to detail. Mr. Hatemi’s artistic versatility is evident in his more three-dimensional, tonal works. In these, the perfectionism of a true miniaturist is masterfully combined with a realist’s appreciation of color, form and perspective.

Excerpt of an Interview with Afra Pordad:

What do you hope you have changed in your public’s image of Iran? Would you say that, in your own way, you are pushing for change for Iran, and of our perception of Iran??
A change in perception; yes. I wanted to show Iran as it is. That’s why I did the shoot in Bazar. You see a good diversity of people; you see workers, you see women In Chador, and you see women in colorful attires.
I could have done this shoot in the more modern shopping malls at which most of the women you would find will look like Shabnam. Or I could have shoot these photos in a place with every women wearing the Chador, the all black cloth that covers from head to toe.

The truth is that Tehran, like many other urban centers, is a diverse city; this I wanted to show.

Photobook on influential Iranians by awarded photographer Mohammad Kheirkhah

Cite from his site:

Mohammad Kheirkhah is a freelance photographer and Multimedia producer having worked for the BBC, United Press International and Deutsche Welle since 2004. Mohammad won an Award of Excellence from Picture of The Year International contest, a program by Missouri School of Journalism for his picture in Iran in 2007. He is now based in San Francisco, CA.

When we speak of influential Persians, we often reference people of the past, sometimes those who lived 2500 years ago.  However, there are many great Persians who live among us in the present, many who continue to influence the way we see the world through art, music, science, technology, and healthcare, just to name a few. My aim is to shed a little light on their faces and capture their brilliance in a unique book. Imagine holding a photo book full of your favorite people!

kathleenMV5BMTc5MzkzMTQ4OF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwODUxMjM0OA@@._V1_SX640_SY720_ Priceless the joke that tells the truth. American-Iranian actress creatively rails against Hollywood’s racism in her quirky, innovative short film below, Brain of Terror.

Kathreen Khavari is an actress fed up with what she continually experiences as Hollywood’s intense manifestation of USA’s wider racism. Thus she created this six minute short about a woman dreams about her serious identity crisis and self doubt,  seeing herself through the eyes of the American public as a “proud terrorist” after watching episodes of “Homeland.”

“This film came to fruition because I was sick of getting sent out for mostly terrorist roles, which my agent at the time believed was all I could play,” Khavari told the web magazine Colorlines in an e-mail.

Other artists have played with these stereotypes, because they are generally global – some to great effect. Look talibanat Thomas Dworzak a photographer who in 2007 released the…

When she had to leave the national team at the age of 18, she found a new challenge in the group “Stunt 13”. She is also a qualified sports teacher. […]

Woman in a male-dominated world: the stunt scene in Iran is a male-dominated world: “most of the time, women’s roles in Iranian films are pretty safe; nothing happens to them, explains “Stunt 13” boss Arsha Aghdasi. “Slowly, however, things are changing. With her courageous and professional manner, Ahmadi has gradually won the trust of the directors.” […]
